This book recovers lesser-known texts by Ahmad Faris al-Shidyaq in a critical editorial project prepared by Fawwaz Traboulsi and Aziz al-Azmeh. Its wager is not simply to gather forgotten writings, but to reconstruct al-Shidyaq as a central thinker and writer of the Arab Nahda, in whose work language, modernity, irony, and religious and political controversy intersect. The volume is therefore a contribution both to textual history and to the rereading of the nineteenth-century Arab intellectual world.
