This book belongs to the collective intellectual milieu from which Fawwaz Traboulsi emerged in the late 1960s, and it reads the Lebanese situation through the contradiction between class structure, sectarian order, and socialist political action. Its strength does not come from an individual signature so much as from being an interventionist text that tries to connect analysis to organization and to the wager of change. It can be read as an early document for understanding the language through which a new Lebanese Marxism was taking shape before the civil war and in the years leading up to it.
