Historian of the Paris Commune
Prosper-Olivier Lissagaray (1838–1901) was a French journalist and historian who fought in the Paris Commune and wrote its definitive history, "History of the Paris Commune of 1871" (1876). His account, based on firsthand experience and extensive documentation, remains one of the most important and detailed sources on the Commune. He was also Eleanor Marx's companion for many years.
