Crushed the Commune
Adolphe Thiers (1797–1877) was a French statesman who served as the first President of the Third Republic (1871–1873). He is most remembered for his brutal suppression of the Paris Commune in May 1871, ordering the military assault that killed an estimated 10,000–20,000 Communards during the "Bloody Week" (Semaine sanglante). He had previously served as prime minister under Louis-Philippe.
