Leader of Keserwan peasant revolt 1858
Tanyus Shahin (1815–1895) was a Lebanese Maronite peasant leader who led the Keserwan revolt of 1858–1859 against feudal landlords. His uprising, one of the earliest peasant rebellions in the Ottoman Empire, challenged the traditional Maronite feudal order and demanded land redistribution and social equality. The revolt is seen as a precursor to the sectarian conflicts of 1860.
