Historical Lebanese emir
Fakhr al-Din Ma'n II (1572–1635) was a Druze emir who ruled Mount Lebanon and parts of Syria, creating one of the earliest autonomous political entities in the Ottoman Levant. He forged alliances with Tuscany and expanded his territory significantly before being captured and executed by the Ottomans in Constantinople. He is regarded in Lebanese historiography as a precursor to Lebanese national identity.
