Moroccan opposition leader, disappeared

Mehdi Ben Barka (1920–1965) was a Moroccan leftist politician, mathematician, and Third World solidarity leader. He headed the National Union of Popular Forces (UNFP) and was president of the preparatory committee for the Tricontinental Conference. He was abducted in Paris in October 1965 and never seen again, in an operation involving Moroccan security services and French intelligence. His disappearance remains one of the most notorious political crimes of the Cold War era.
