Egyptian journalist

Mohamed Hassanein Heikal (1923–2016) was Egypt's most influential journalist and political commentator. As editor of Al-Ahram (1957–1974) and a close confidant of Gamal Abdel Nasser, he shaped Arab political discourse for decades. His books on Middle Eastern affairs, based on privileged access to leaders, remain essential references. He later became a prominent critic of Sadat's peace with Israel.
